FEATURED REVIEW
Blackberry Curve 8520
Livewire from Newcastle upon Tyne ,10 November 2011
I love this product and wish I had bought it way before now. I read a review that said it does everything the other smart phones do, and then I would add and it costs less. You appear to be able to have more than one email address, which is great, the organiser it easy to use and uncomplicated. If you are a bit of geek and like to keep in touch with Twitter and Facebook it does this too. The sheer beauty of this product is that you have everything in the same place, you can also type documents and send it to your computer for tarting up later. A superb product. I had this phone for about 2 years. I bought it before it became popular and I found the phone really good. I found that the qwerty keyboard really easy to use but to start with the keys are hard to get used to if you haven't used a qwerty keyboard before. I didn't use blackberry messenger because it didn't work for my phone but I think that I had set it up wrong. The apps for this phone are great. There are loads of free ones that are really useful. I also like the fact that you can have different themes which makes the phone more fun and less business like. Overall I think that this phone is really good and mine never broke once which is the complete opposite to what many people believe about blackberry phones. One of the best phones ive ever bought, its easy to use, light, fun, and overall such a good phone. if you want a good decent, reliable phone then buy this! you'll never want to get a new phone once you have this. i had doubts about buying a blackberry but all my friends said it was well worth the money and i gotta be honest they're right!! ive now been usingnothing else but blackberrys for the last few years and had no problems with any of them! highly recommended phone :D :D :D :D Age group: 18 - 29 I have used this product for: 2-5 years Expertise: intermediate I use this product for: Personal Review 13 for BlackBerry Curve 8520 The worst phone ever!

I brought this phone thinking it would be the poshest phone ever. Oh how I was mistaken! After a week of using it, the scroll-er broke and when I took it to the blackberry shop it came back with all the letters in the wrong place. +Graphics are terrible +badly made +the people who sold it to me were horrible +looks a mess. I have two things to say to the people out there. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE and IT IS THE WORST PHONE EVER! Age group: 30 - 39 I have used this product for: 1-3 months Expertise: novice I use this product for: Personal Review 14 for BlackBerry Curve 8520 Unreliable

Completely unreliable. Freezes constantly so you have to take battery out all the time, and internet is quite slow. Wouldn't recommend as it breaks a lot. had to send off three times for a repair, the phone is a joke, freezes alot, the buttons always stop working, only good thing about it is that its easy to use. love blackberrys really good for bbm, just not for other things. if you get a blackberry get the bold or torch not the curves. camera isnt good, no flash on it battery life is absoulutley shocking goes with in about 4-5 hours after charging it through the night. wouldnt reccommend cant wait for my upgrade, dont be put off blackberrys just dont get the curve! Age group: 18 - 29 I have used this product for: 1-2 years Expertise: expert I use this product for: Personal Review 18 for BlackBerry Curve 8520 Suits the purpose! Love it for me.

Okay so it's not the best made phone and we'll start on the minor negatives. Heavy handed people may even find that their phone has cracked from it's day-to-day hardship. And it's not the fastest. Who'd expect it to be for the price? But I tell you, this phone does miracles for it's cheapness. I suggest you read the specifications before buying, and if you want something a little more powerful perhaps consider another BB model (higher priced) I have had my Curve 8520 for a year and a half now and my friend has had hers for 3 and a half years. They still are in new condition. Let me tell you, it's really hard to actually break it unless you're a frequent phone-dropper or pull and bite at the plastic. The keyboard is in tact and I can be on my phone all day without it aching my fingers. I have average sized hands, maybe for those who have bigger hands they should look at the bold models because the keys are bigger on the bold. BBM works really well despite it not being the latest because of this older model running OS5. The apps for Blackberry's aren't the best and DO crash a few times with this slower processor but I can put up with slight blips here and there and I have loads of apps, pictures and videos and things still tend to run smoothly enough. No 3G though, but to me 3G isn't really important. The worst part of this phone is the battery life. Blackberry smartphones do have a reputation of not being able to keep charge but mine lasts me 1-2 days of general use. To save battery, turn the screen brightness down, the sound off and minimize use of apps and music and all will be well. I have had no problems with my phone and it's the best phone i've ever bought. I had an LG optimus but this one is definitely better because you can really benefit from the trackpad and keyboard. The screen res isn't the best but I wasn't looking for a retina-display phone and there's no flash (isn't a shame to me!) Don't let the lower specs put you off, this phone is a good buy with all the main features of a blackberry! Its also very easy to use, which is where it beats all the other BB models sporting their flashier and more complex operating systems. The BlackBerry Curve 8520 is an entry level smartphone with all the basic BlackBerry features like BBM and secure push email, plus a pocket lint-proof optical trackpad. In its day it wasn’t at the cutting edge of technology and the passing of time hasn’t exactly helped in this respect, however it’s a good introduction to the benefits of BlackBerry smartphones at a low price point. The BlackBerry Curve 9300 is just a little bit more expensive and gives you the benefit of faster 3G internet, which will make web browsing and app downloading easier. That being said, you can connect to Wi-Fi on this phone which will improve your experience considerably. The Curve 8520 has a pretty classic BlackBerry smartphone design, with a slightly small screen that isn’t overly sharp or bright, a trackpad that’s much better than the scrollball on previous models and a full QWERTY keyboard that is a little cramped, especially for the large of hand. There’s 256MB of built-in storage for you to play with, but luckily you can increase this by purchasing a microSD card (up to 32GB). This is not a phone for budding photographers – the 2MP camera lacks a flash and produces underwhelming images. If you need a phone that can handle emails, give you free instant messages to other BlackBerry devices and access to basic applications, this is a winner. For that extra bump in features I would recommend the 3G-enabled BlackBerry Curve 9300.
