The BlackBerry® Curve 8520 is a fun, simple smartphone with great social networking features and a comfy QWERTY keyboard for firing off messages.

Slim, light and the littlest member of the BlackBerry® Curve family, 8520 is the perfect size for popping into your pocket and taking with you everywhere. Make sure to invest in a screen protector and an official BlackBerry® Curve 8520 case, as these essential accessories will ward off scuffs, scratches and fingerprints, so you can keep your new phone in perfect condition.

This sleek, stylish phone makes it really easy to send text messages, IMs and emails, as it has a comfortable QWERTY keyboard laid out like a mini laptop keyboard, which feels familiar and easy to use. The trackpad in the centre of the phone works smoothly like a computer mouse, letting you swiftly scroll through menus or web pages, and click on apps to open them.

Social networking is easy with instant access to Facebook™, Twitter™, MySpace™, and Windows Live Messenger™. You can link a friend’s phonebook contact details to their Facebook profile, and download images they post on their profile straight to your mobile phone.

When you want to communicate quickly, use the brilliant BlackBerry® Messenger - an unlimited messaging service exclusive to BlackBerry® smartphone owners. You can use BBM™ to update your status, share files and even post your favourite photos to Facebook™. You can also create groups of people to chat with, and easily make plans, share lists or send SMS messages* from your BBM™ account, with longer character limits and no hidden costs.

BlackBerry® push delivery lets you see when friends are typing messages to you, when they read your replies, and informs you as soon as new emails come in. All you need to enjoy the service is an appropriate data plan and if your tariff doesn’t already include a BlackBerry email and internet bundle you can add an **unlimited data plan to your basket at checkout.

With Wi-Fi enabling and a built-in web browser, the BlackBerry® Curve 8520 makes it easy to go online and browse the internet, catch up on the latest news or download content. You can store files, photos and music on a microSD card , up to 16GB, and turn your phone into a mini entertainment centre that goes everywhere you go.

If you need a smartphone that's fun, simple and easy to use, then the BlackBerry Curve 8520 is a great choice. This music-friendly mobile has dedicated media keys, so you can skip, pause or repeat tracks while your phone is in your pocket, and you can listen to music privately by plugging in your favourite pair of headphones. There's also an integrated 2 Megapixel camera for capturing still photos and video clips. You can upload pictures straight to Facebook™, MySpace™ and Flickr™, via the BlackBerry® Easy Media Sharing™ service.

The BlackBerry® Curve 8520 is not just for business users. It will help you connect with friends, browse the web and manage your day-to-day life. Personalise your mobile with apps, available at BlackBerry App World™.

I love this product and wish I had bought it way before now. I read a review that said it does everything the other smart phones do, and then I would add and it costs less. You appear to be able to have more than one email address, which is great, the organiser it easy to use and uncomplicated. If you are a bit of geek and like to keep in touch with Twitter and Facebook it does this too. The sheer beauty of this product is that you have everything in the same place, you can also type documents and send it to your computer for tarting up later. A superb product.

Great!

I had this phone for about 2 years. I bought it before it became popular and I found the phone really good. I found that the qwerty keyboard really easy to use but to start with the keys are hard to get used to if you haven't used a qwerty keyboard before. I didn't use blackberry messenger because it didn't work for my phone but I think that I had set it up wrong. The apps for this phone are great. There are loads of free ones that are really useful. I also like the fact that you can have different themes which makes the phone more fun and less business like. Overall I think that this phone is really good and mine never broke once which is the complete opposite to what many people believe about blackberry phones.

+Graphics are terrible
+badly made
+the people who sold it to me were horrible
+looks a mess.

had to send off three times for a repair, the phone is a joke, freezes alot, the buttons always stop working, only good thing about it is that its easy to use.
love blackberrys really good for bbm, just not for other things.
if you get a blackberry get the bold or torch not the curves.
camera isnt good, no flash on it battery life is absoulutley shocking goes with in about 4-5 hours after charging it through the night.
wouldnt reccommend cant wait for my upgrade, dont be put off blackberrys just dont get the curve!

Review 18 for BlackBerry Curve 8520
Suits the purpose! Love it for me.
SmartphonesArentGeeky.

Okay so it's not the best made phone and we'll start on the minor negatives. Heavy handed people may even find that their phone has cracked from it's day-to-day hardship. And it's not the fastest. Who'd expect it to be for the price? But I tell you, this phone does miracles for it's cheapness. I suggest you read the specifications before buying, and if you want something a little more powerful perhaps consider another BB model (higher priced)
I have had my Curve 8520 for a year and a half now and my friend has had hers for 3 and a half years. They still are in new condition. Let me tell you, it's really hard to actually break it unless you're a frequent phone-dropper or pull and bite at the plastic. The keyboard is in tact and I can be on my phone all day without it aching my fingers. I have average sized hands, maybe for those who have bigger hands they should look at the bold models because the keys are bigger on the bold. BBM works really well despite it not being the latest because of this older model running OS5.
The apps for Blackberry's aren't the best and DO crash a few times with this slower processor but I can put up with slight blips here and there and I have loads of apps, pictures and videos and things still tend to run smoothly enough. No 3G though, but to me 3G isn't really important.
The worst part of this phone is the battery life. Blackberry smartphones do have a reputation of not being able to keep charge but mine lasts me 1-2 days of general use. To save battery, turn the screen brightness down, the sound off and minimize use of apps and music and all will be well.
I have had no problems with my phone and it's the best phone i've ever bought. I had an LG optimus but this one is definitely better because you can really benefit from the trackpad and keyboard. The screen res isn't the best but I wasn't looking for a retina-display phone and there's no flash (isn't a shame to me!) Don't let the lower specs put you off, this phone is a good buy with all the main features of a blackberry! Its also very easy to use, which is where it beats all the other BB models sporting their flashier and more complex operating systems.

Review 19 for BlackBerry Curve 8520
Geek Squad Expert
BlackBerry Curve 8520 Geek Squad expert review
Agent Matt Aston
,11 June 2012
The BlackBerry Curve 8520 is an entry level smartphone with all the basic BlackBerry features like BBM and secure push email, plus a pocket lint-proof optical trackpad. In its day it wasn’t at the cutting edge of technology and the passing of time hasn’t exactly helped in this respect, however it’s a good introduction to the benefits of BlackBerry smartphones at a low price point. The BlackBerry Curve 9300 is just a little bit more expensive and gives you the benefit of faster 3G internet, which will make web browsing and app downloading easier. That being said, you can connect to Wi-Fi on this phone which will improve your experience considerably.
The Curve 8520 has a pretty classic BlackBerry smartphone design, with a slightly small screen that isn’t overly sharp or bright, a trackpad that’s much better than the scrollball on previous models and a full QWERTY keyboard that is a little cramped, especially for the large of hand. There’s 256MB of built-in storage for you to play with, but luckily you can increase this by purchasing a microSD card (up to 32GB). This is not a phone for budding photographers – the 2MP camera lacks a flash and produces underwhelming images. If you need a phone that can handle emails, give you free instant messages to other BlackBerry devices and access to basic applications, this is a winner. For that extra bump in features I would recommend the 3G-enabled BlackBerry Curve 9300.
