Very basic

I ordered this phone as I didn't want all the features of a smart phone, but overall am disappointed. It is very basic, but didn't seem to be as cheap as some of the other basic phones. It has no speakerphone, and when I transferred all my contacts from my previous phone which contained a mobile and landline number, only a single number for each contact transferred. When I realised, I had to manually input all the additional numbers one by one. Am looking for an alternative.

Next step up

The phone has a good feel to it. The clamshell design means I can be confident of it not switching on inadvertently, say in a hospital. The keys are larger than on a simpler phone, just right for my "little fat fingers". The manual was difficult to download and view with PDF readers; the English is good but the instructions are not complete. It took me while to find that there is a SAVE option for changes to ringtones and so on. Now that I am over these teething problems, I am happy with the phone and would recommend it.

Good Basic phone

This is a good first/basic phone we bought for our daughter to have with her for secondary school, avoiding internet access Facebook and all that (for now).
The phone is simple, nice to use, and pretty intuitive, and the clam-shell design makes it fairly robust and no need to buy a case.
The radio and mp3 player sound is good, although the file structure does not let the phone recognize albums which makes finding your favorite tunes a bit slow....
Other minor niggles include:
The Alcatel instructions advise you should update the phone software, but the software on their website to do this crashes once installed on our PC so updating is not possible.
To put in a micro SD card to hold music (8gb max, bought separately) you have to remove the battery which means the phone forgets the time and date which is a pain. And since you cannot connect the phone directly to a PC you need to remove the card to change the selection of music, so the time and date get forgotten again.
However, overall this a good basic phone that does the job intended, looks good, feels good and is at a good price. What more do you want?
